New Student Welcome
If you are new to karate or any other martial arts practice, the hardest part is making the decision to begin your journey and making contact with a new dojo and walking in the door.
Our hope is to make that as easy as possible.
Martial Arts training has so much to offer – for children and adults alike – in our busy society.
What we offer:
Our mission is to train students in traditional karate, which is a highly effective self-defense system that also enhances self-control, concentration skills, physical and mental fitness, and provides stress reduction and increased confidence. We are dedicated to teaching traditional Shotokan Karate, one of the most effective and popular martial arts in the world. We try hard to keep training simple, rigorous, practical, and to provide a challenging and positive experience for all of our students.
Please read below for more information about joining.
Tuition
You are invited to try a class for free. Come see what our dojo is like and experience traditional karate training.
If you would like to commit to a monthly membership, our current monthly fees are $120. Special rates apply for additional family members. Please contact us for more information.
Please see here for our waiver of liability, which is required for all students to fill out before training.
Visitors
We welcome visitors from other dojos, regardless of style. The class mat fee is $20.
Please let us know ahead of time if possible that you plan to join by emailing us at fremontshotokankarate@gmail.com.
Please see here for our waiver of liability, which is required for all students to fill out before training.
Uniform
We wear a traditional karate white dō-gi (uniform). We can help order one for you at a modest price once you decide to join.
For your first class, please feel free to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing covering the arms and legs preferably. Please avoid zippers and anything potentially sharp as the dojo flooring is a tatami mat surface and those items can potential damage the floor.
No jewelry is permitted (small stud earrings are ok). Please also refrain from wearing fitness watches.
We train barefooted. No shoes are allowed on the mat. Socks are ok, but can be slippery.
Etiquette
Etiquette can be quite cumbersome at some Japanese martial arts dojos. Ours is fairly simple. When you come to the dojo for the first time, we will give you a brief introduction to the basic etiquette. The main intention of any of the etiquette formalities is to create a safe training environment conducive to learning for all students.
