About Us

For many years the Fremont Shotokan Karate dojo operated in the City of Fremont, offering high quality teaching and training in the traditional Japanese karate style of Shotokan with Bernardo Mercado Sensei and Harry Imamura Sensei.

In 2020 the former Fremont Shotokan Karate dojo closed its gates. For over two years a devoted group of karateka continued training informally in the park with Bernardo Mercado Sensei and Talila Golan Senpai. At the end of 2022 Bernardo Sensei tragically passed away in a car accident. From our loss and grief grew the desire to continue in Bernardo Sensei’s path, and rebuild the Fremont Shotokan Karate once again. Rebuilding a dojo is a long process but we’re well on our way there.

Our mission is to train students in traditional karate, which is a highly effective self-defense system that also enhances self-control, concentration skills, physical and mental fitness, and provides stress reduction and increased confidence. We are dedicated to teaching traditional Shotokan Karate, one of the most effective and popular martial arts in the world.

We try hard to keep training simple, rigorous, practical, and to provide a challenging and positive experience for all of our students.

We are excited to train with you and share our passion for Karate.
